With LEGO’s expansion into video games and movies to go along with their toys in recent years, the challenge is to come up with new and innovative ways to integrate. Their latest is the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack for the WiiU. This game is also available for the PS3, PS4, XBox 360, and XBox One.
The game is integrated with the LEGO Dimensions toys. Three playable characters and the LEGO Dimensions portal are included with the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack; Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings collection, and Wyldstyle from the LEGO Movie collection, Batman from the DC Universe collection, and the Batmobile.
Users play the game by combining their efforts on the console and interacting with the minifigures on an included LEGO Dimensions Toy Pad. This is not the first time video games have integrated toys into play, but this is probably the most impressive in terms of size and scope.

What We Like About LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack
LEGO has experience in making high quality video games. They took that experience and combined it with their resurgent popularity to bring together many different characters into this game.
The Toy Pad is a clever addition to the gameplay. Building the actual LEGO portal is part of the early game, with instructions on how to assemble the portal and the Batmobile appearing as elements of the game.
The LEGO minifigures attach to disk platforms, and they have to be moved on the Toy Pad in order to solve puzzles and advance the game play. The inputs put on the Toy Pad are translated into the game. Expansion packs featuring an amazing variety of characters, from Ghostbusters to Doctor Who, can be added through the Toy Pad. The expansion pack characters have new abilities, vehicles, and features which the three characters in the Starter Pack do not have.
Story mode with the three characters in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is fun, but there are parts of the game that are not accessible without the special abilities of certain expansion pack characters.
What Others Are Saying About LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack
Gamers and LEGO fans are very impressed by the quality of the game. The story mode with the characters included in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is very fun and very well done.
Fans of other franchises are also drawn to this game in order to play as their favorite characters from Doctor Who, The Simpsons, or Back to the Future (to name a few).
LEGO has really outdid itself with the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack. The game and the storylines are very entertaining. There are a total of 25 expansion packs sold separately, which will add characters to the game and open up new parts to each world in the game.
The game mechanics are similar to other LEGO games, but the Toy Pad addition makes the puzzles and boss fights much more immersive.
