Every kid is unique. Yet, all children tend to imitate their parents – they all want to be grown-ups. So, as wearable tech gains more and more popularity, the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX becomes one of the most wanted gifts of the season. It’s as close as a toy gets to a full-fledged smartwatch. At the same time, it is one of the most educational toys on the market, making it a win-win.
Parents like the Kidizoom DX’s many educational features and physical challenges, while kids love the countless interactive features, including eight games, a voice changer, a digital camera with video capability and, of course, the fact that they get their own portable gadget.

What We Like About VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX
We were impressed before the Kidizoom DX was even turned on – the smartwatch comes in a large acrylic display case, making it look like a gadget from a spy movie. Additionally, the strap is made from a smooth and comfortable material, with a buckle that will not itch or scratch. That’s a big plus for kids who tend to lose things because they won’t think about taking the smartwatch off. It may be a bit too large for kids under the age of six, though it is very light-weight. The touch screen is fully functional – it responds to taps, swipes and allows you to adjust the brightness, menu layout and sounds. If there were functional GPS and voice-calling features, this would be a great smartwatch by anyone’s standards.
Our kids love the new VTech for a number of reasons. The games are great for traveling to and from school because, unlike other gadgets and portable video games, a smartwatch won’t accidentally fall. They also really enjoy having a digital camera with them wherever they go, especially since they can edit pictures right on their wrist. Still, their favorite feature is the voice recorder. It can play recording with a few different filters that make anyone’s voice sound hilarious. No smartwatch (including Apple’s) we know of has that feature.
As parents, we like the seven educational games and challenges included on the Kidizoom Smartwatch DX. The challenges are great for keeping our kids active. They’re highly accurate too, thanks to the motion sensor and pedometer used by VTech. The smartwatch can train their brain as well – the educational games help improve memory and help learn math, in addition to other areas of study. And, with over 50 watch-face options, younger kids will have a great chance to learn how to tell the time.
What Others Are Saying About VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX
The large majority of other buyers are just as happy with the Vtech smartwatch. Buyers are impressed with the versatility of the watch, as well as its durability. Many mention falls, scratches and spills that would have disabled their own, more expensive smartwatches.
The only complaint worth mentioning is the misrepresented battery life. VTech claims it to last 3 days at high usage. Meanwhile, it will only last for a day and a half. That’s fine and it actually teaches kids to be responsible (they need to plug it in to charge before going to bed) but it’s kind of a disappointment because of the unrealistic claim.
As far as presents go, the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX is a definite winner. Any kid who is into tech will absolutely love it. The smartwatch has a huge educational potential and an even bigger capacity for fun. The video camera and voice recorder create some of the earliest memories they have. Most importantly though, no other toy will constantly stay with them and get so much use every single day.
